Hello All,
We are finally in Jackson Hole Wy. We met our friends here yesterday.
Thursday evening we came back from evening fishing to a monster storm hanging over the reservoir; so we scrambles around in a hurry to batten down the hatches and secure all loose objects! Thankfully we didn't get the brunt of it but the winds continues for hours sustained at easily 40 MPH. It was rather frightening...
Friday morning we got up early and fished the Big Horn River for a few hours. We didn't have any luck but it was beautiful on the river... We got back to the camper and packed up, took one last dip in the reservoir to cool down and were on on way to Jackson.
On our way from Boysen State Park we came through the small town of Dubois which was charming and I can't wait to spend some time there in the future... We gassed up the truck and headed down the road and soon saw our first sight of the Wind River Range of Mountains. They were quite impressive and even more so because that's where I know Ron and his friends are going to climb as they make their way toward the lakes they intend to backpack into to fish starting Friday. What an incredible adventure that will be!
We soon came into the Shoshoni National Forest area and drove along the Scenic Byway which ww both agreed has to have been the prettiest stretch of driving that either of us had ever been on (neither of us had been on this particular RD before).... It was thickly forested area with ramrod straight evergreens that seemed to reach as far as the sky and appeared to go on forever..We gained 3000 ft of elevation and climbed to over 9500 ft. Thankfully, the truck and the trailer handled it beautifully!
We soon caught our first sight of the Grand Tetons; simply spectacular!! These mountain ranges have snow pack on them, in this heat, this late in July!!!
We arrived at our campground, the Virginian right in the heart of the Tetons and we settled in and made camp and proceeded to catch up with our friends. we went out for dinner where we swapped stories about all of our adventures so far.
We came back to camp where our campers are set up side by side and gave Ron his belated birthday cake and then we all fell into an exhausted sleep for the night.
I will be posting these next pictures from Ron's camera since unfortunately mine seem to need some major repair. We are considering getting a new one for me since we have over 6 weeks left to go and many more things to capture on film...
